Since God restored the gifts of the Spirit to the church through the world-wide Azusa outpouring over a hundred years ago, it’s been quite the ride ever since! More recently, in particular as we came into the 1980’s, there was a real wide-spread restoration of the office of the prophet along with an emphasis on both the seer gifting and vocal gifting which many prophets come with. This is wonderful. Something that we celebrate here at Lion of Light Ministries, but with the restoration of this office and the gifts that come with it there’s been a lot of confusion and damage done all over the world since that time. One of the reasons for this is many people understand the benefits of such gifts. They are obvious. But many do not understand or teach about the dangers of the prophetic, in particular “subjective spiritual experiences”. Yes, I do believe that God, the Giver of these gifts, is able to keep us from deception and error which these gifts have the potential to lead us into. But I also believe we should heed the scriptures when they tell us to “be sober, be vigilant, for our adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet.5:8). Let’s not be in fear about these gifts, but let’s have a level of sobriety so that the Lord can teach us how to steward these gifts with authority and wisdom so they don’t end up becoming a stumbling block to the faith of the body.
